What is Toastmasters?

Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people from diverse backgrounds become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders.
What will I learn in Mallorca Wordsmiths?
In Mallorca Wordsmiths Toastmasters Club, you will learn the skills and confidence you need to effectively speak in front of an audience.
Whether you are a professional, student, stay-at-home parent or retiree, our program is the most efficient, enjoyable, and affordable way of gaining great communication skills
In a club meeting, you practice giving prepared speeches as well as brief impromptu presentations, known as Table Topics. There is no rush and no pressure. The Toastmasters program allows you to progress at your own pace
In our Club, there is different people, with different profiles and motivations, we can assure you, there is a place for everyone
What is the Toastmaster’s Philosophy?
Constructive evaluation is central to the Toastmasters philosophy.
Each time you give a prepared speech, an evaluator will point out strengths as well as suggest improvements. Receiving and giving such feedback is a great learning experience
In Toastmasters, encouragement and improvement go hand-in-hand. Anyone who is a strong leader has to first be an effective communicator.
In Toastmasters, you will hone your speaking skills, and you will develop leadership abilities through evaluations, listening, mentoring, serving as club officers, and filling roles in club meetings.
You will take those leadership skills out into the world, running businesses, mentoring youths, organizing fund-raisers, coaching teams and heading up families.

What can you expect at a meeting
In Toastmasters, everything revolves around the club meeting. How can you learn without teachers? Is it only the speakers who learn in every meeting? To understand how we all manage to participate and learn in every meeting watch the following video.
Have you seen in the video how serious and formal everything looks like?
Don’t worry about it, it’s not that serious. At least not in our club, is much more fun!
A bit of our Club History
Mallorca Wordsmiths was founded in April 2002 by Debbie Cameron with the help of Ralph Arroyo. The first meetings were held at Santa Ponsa Country Club.
Debbie was awarded District 59 Toastmaster of the Year in 2005. Under the name of Mallorca International Toastmasters, the club hosted the first ever District 59 Conference in Spain with over 270 TM attending from all over Europe.
In 2008/9 the name was changed to Mallorca Wordsmiths and after a few changes in venues, the club were incredibly lucky to find the Hotel Horizonte, whom support the club one hundred per cent.
In 2012 under the guidance of the new President, Sebastian Lora, it was decided that meetings, from that moment, would be one week in English, one week in Spanish (instead of all English). This was a great success.
In 2020 due to covid, we had to stop the face-to-face meetings
in 2023 we continue with great strength at the hands of President Victor Piña to carry out beautiful projects.
In the last few years, many changes have been made. Guest speaker nights, theme nights, tapas nights, contests and bring-a-guest night have all been part of the success the club now enjoys. This is the reason many members and guests now attend the meetings each week.
